Well no wonder it takes you so long to make the commute in the morning, that top would screw up your aerodynamics… Paint & interior looks good though, but I find myself questionning your musical taste. Something like this could get you kicked out of the band!

Looks like a nice ride for a pleasant valley Sunday drive.
No matter what you think of primates, it’s a beautiful build! The paint is perfect!
Also, I’m not ashamed that I was in my truck yesterday belting out “Daydream Believah” at full throttle! What a perfectly written pop song!

Doog - John Stewart of the Kingston Trio wrote “Daydream Believah”. Other of their songs were written by Neil Diamond and other staff writters. Mike Nesmith also wrote some of their songs (Mary, Mary). He had written “Different Drum” which Linda Rondstadt and the Stone Poneys covered.

Who doesn’t love the Monkeys? If I recall the car was a 1966 or 1967 GTO that was customized by George Barris. Anyone know for sure who did the custom work? Where is the car now? One of the Monkey’s mother invented the “white-out” correction fluid for typing mistakes and made millions off of thet invention. There is some great trivia surrounding the Monkeys. I’ll listen to the Monkeys any day over this “rap” crap.
ME!!! Although I’m with you on the rap, can’t do that either. Monkeys were too bubble-gum (sounding) for me, not knocking the songwriting.
Thing I always wondered was, where was “Clarksville” and why was it the last train? Wouldn’t there be another in the mornin’?[^o)]

I think the problem with The Monkees was that the TV show came first, and not the band itself. They were to be America’s response to The Beatles, and were known as the Pre-Fab Four. Still, they had some great songs. They had better as they were written by some of the great song writers of the century (the aforementioned Neil Diamond, along with Harry Nilsson and Carole King), and which got better as the band insisted in having some creative control. Stephen Stills tried out for the band and was rejected as he was already going bald at a young age. He got his roommate at the time to try out and Mickey Dolenz became the drummer, even though he only knew the guitar. Stills ran into his old friend Neil Young shortly after and they started Buffalo Springfield, and later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Frank Zappa was friends of the band and appeared on their show as well as their one and only movie: Head, and let’s not forget that it was The Monkees who insisted that a then unknown black musician play as their opening act in what was his first US concert, although in retrospect they weren’t a good mix. Jimi Hendrix played a decidedly heavier set list than the tween girls in the audience could understand.
Dis the show, but respect the band as they were:
- the first music artist or group to win two Emmy awards
- were one of the first groups to have simultaneous #1 hits in both the US and the UK
- their first four albums went to #1 on Billboard’s top 100 (and all in the same year!)
- More of the Monkees spent 70 weeks on the Billboard charts and ends up as the 12th top selling album of all time.
- perhaps most importantly, Gene Roddenberry was so taken by Davy Jones’ hair and attitude on the show that he fashioned Chekov after him.
Clarksville TN is the nearest town to Fort Cambell KY (only the main gate to Fort Cambell is in KY - more or less). Draftees would be taken by train to Clarksville and then bussed to Fort Cambell, at least that the way it was back in the 60s. Fort Cambell is the home of the 101st Airborn, my alma mater. Clarksvill is where the GI would go, if they could get a pass or permission to take leave, in order to get a cold glass of milk and talk to nice young girls. [;)]
More Monkee trivia:
Davy Jones was appearing in a Broadway production of Oliver! as the Artful Dodger. Because of this he made an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, the same night as the Beatles first appearance.
David Bowie’s real name is David Jones as well and produced the stage name so not to get confused with Davy Jones.
