Nice to see the build is moving along without any hiccups
This is not my entry, but an actual kit I built in 1984. It was still in the original box along with the sale receipt dated July 28, 1984. I would have built it before I headed back to college in September.
Nice one Rob!
I think I can manage a model in a year, and I’ve been looking for an excuse to build this one:
80’s show and 80’s model! Ha ha!
Looks like a winner! Looking forward to watching this build.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh cool!!!
I have a kit similar to that, but after a quick trip to Hobby Lobby, I found a Tom Cat, not any Tomcat, but Tom “Maverick” Cruise’s F-14 from the movie Top Gun.
I think I might build that 1980s movie kit instead of the Keaton Batmobile (which I am still building). The old AMT/Ertl Batmobile is still a rather rough kit and will need more time to be brought up to standards.
The Top Gun Tomcat was only around $11 after their 40% off sale.
Rob, I’m really envious of the Millenium Falcon! About the same time you were building that I built the X-wing fighter, and I wish I still had it - happy memories.
While it is not my oldest built model kit, finding a model that I made 37 years ago, and still in near mint condition is amazing. It is a snapshot into my modeling skills in 1984.
GT, this hi-vis or lo-vis scheme? I was thinking about doing the hi-vis scheme, from the Final Countdown, but I like the VA-82 Scheme from the movie as well (and I actually have the decals for that!)…
I have Hi Visibility ones. Have some Low Visibility ones also but we will se what time allows. Looks like depending on the squadron the A-7s switched over in the early 80s to the low visibility schemes.
more on the Firebird. I didn’t like the pattern on the door (or lack thereof), so i reworked it a little to have the classic swoop. Main interior color is Tamiya Haze Grey.

She’s coming along nicely! [Y]
Looks great, what did you do to the floor to get the result that you were happy with?
Here is my offering for this GB. Planning on stretching the frame and turning it into a silage hauling truck with a scratch built 20’ box
John: Oooooooohhhhhhhh, very cool!
OK, so here’s my entry for the '80s Group Build. Hopefully I can keep this project on track and completed in a timely manner…lol
John, I remember building a glue bomb with tons of had painted Testors enamel. It never came close to looking like the one my Dad drove though.
Mike, looks like a winner also! I’ll prod you along if you need it.
Mike: Ohhhh, that’s really cool too! Love racing auto models with all the cool decals.
68GT,
I’m sorry, I should have been a bit more specific: the Lancia kit isn’t Tamiya it’s from Platz/NuNu and was reviewed here a few weeks ago:
Tim Kidwell also did a Fast Track video on the unboxing.
Thanks,
Mike
