Right now the screw that I put in the nose of my 1/72 TOmcat has come loose, after glueing the forward, aft, and midsections together. So I’m wondering at conventions do judges care if there is a rattle in the nose, should i try to glue it down if I can find an opening or just let it be?
To answer your question, judges aren’t going to care about rattles, as long as it still sits properly on its landing gear.
I’ve had the same thing happen. I fixed it by pumping some white glue into an opening and propping the model nose-down until it cured. The white glue is easy to clean up, plus it’s not going to cause any damaging side-effects if you have to use a lot of it.

I don’t believe judges actually handle them, do they? I think you would be fine.

Betcher @zz they do… If it ain’t glued/bolted down, they’ll pick it up, if it ain’t glued shut, they’ll open it, and if it 's dark, they’ll light it up…
LOL!!! I haven’t seen any of this happen. The most handling I’ve seen is them lifting, very carefully, from under the nose and tail, then just turning it for another angle. If it’s on a base, they’ll just touch the base to get another angle. That’s the way it goes around here anyway.
Do you automatically get a First Place if the #$*&@! judge breaks your model?
I’ve seen judges do this too, and in fact break off a small bit or damage the thing so the following judges inspecting the model are automatically disqualifying it.
The only thing worse is having someone steal your model.
So are you saying glue it shut if I can find an opening or don’t worry about it since its inside and isn’t part of the model.
I say glue it up if you can do it easily through an existing opening, otherwise don’t worry about it. If you enter it into a contest, put a “DO NOT TOUCH” sign next to it.
And if it is glued down, they might just break it off.
LOL yeah let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
