Hey all,
Haven’t been on the boards much lately. Been finishing up my site. If you get a chance, check it out and give any feedback/ comments. There is a guestbook.
Thoughts on improvement, problems or other ideas would be appreciated.

The site looks good Andy, but I have one question…do you have permission to use the various manufacturers and retailers logo you have on your site? If not, get permission, it may save you a whole lot of hassle later on. Many companies require permission to use their logos, and will ask you to remove it…copyright/trademark violators are prosocuted. There are many sites companies do not want their brands associated with…you’d shouldn’t have any problems.
Snagging images from other websites isn’t recommended, the quality of the image degrades everytime it is copied. Get the logo direct from the company. A company logo is their brand and they have rules as to how it appears and at what quality/color it must be. Just CYA and you’ll be okay.
Yeah, I checked into that with other site makers. They said that the companies like the exposure and if there was a problem posting their stuff, it would give me a warning when triyng to post their images.
Thanks for the heads up…

Andy. I like the site a lot. Looks very professional. Easy to navigate. It appears though that you have done what I had been doing. The thumb nailed pics have lost some of the quality and look pixilated. What I was doing was inserting the photo reducing the pixels. Like a 640x480 photo that I wanted to reduce by a factor of 10 so I would make it 64x48 pixels and set it as a thumbnail. The thumb looks lousy but it looks fine when you click it see the full size. I have started making tiny thumbs in a photo editor and inserting those, then linking it to the original full size photo. Eventually I will get to all the old pages and re-do them.
I know pretty much zero HTML and I am sure an experienced web person can explain it better. The program I use is really basic and WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) so it is all drag and drop and NO HTML at all.
Do you mind if I put a link to your site on mine?
All you have to do is email them, include a link to your website for them to look at and they will send you permission and the files for the logos attached in an email. I’m guessing you read the agreement that FSM requires before using their logo?
Like I said…C Y A ! Never assume others know the answer…get it from the source!
Not a problem Marc, feel free to add it. I’ll do the same for yours as well.

Nice site Andy! [tup]
Andy, your website, much like you, are an asset to this hobby. I like going back and looking at your builds. Any advice on how to create a website. I’d like to give it a shot, if anything a place for me to look back at my own builds without having to dig through photo files.
Looks great Wulf! It’s great when modelers share their work woth others- it inspired me in building my site, seeing what Swanny and others had done!
Mucker- take a look at Wordpress.com. I use Wordpress for my site, and it really makes it easy to get something up and running. Blogger.com is also a good option. Both are pretty much “HTML free” in terms of what you’d need to do.
That is a very nice thing to say Mucker. I appreciate that. Let me say, if I can do a website, anyone can! I’m not a real whiz on the PC. I used Yahoo site builder. It’s a real easy to use hoster with lots of tools and options.

Very, very nice! I spent some time there looking at your builds. I really like it. I wish I had the time and ability to do something like that myself for my artwork. I’m not so sure my models are worthy yet – I’m still learning. Thanks for sharing it with us!!

Andy, your site looks great. You sure put a ton of stuff on right from the get go. Makes me feel inadequate that I havent’ updated mine in 6 months. Sometimes is a toss up between building the actual model or updating the site. I would love to see more inbuild pictures - but I know that’s always a hassle - stopping to take photos.
In anycase, like Marc, I would like to put a link on my site to yours, is that okay?
In regards to what Marc said about thumb nails, the reason it looks better when you first reduce the picture from a photoeditor is that the photoeditor is actually doing some intelligent resizing. If you resize from a web-editor, its generally pretty dumb in how the resize goes and you get a poorly resized photo. In addition, resizing first gives you a much smaller thumbnail photo to upload. In regards to HTML, with all the great tools out there now you dont’ really need to know HTML unless you want to do something fancy. I’m in software development, and I haven’t used HTML on my on site for a few years now.
Good luck with the site.
I have Mozilla, and for the lfe of me can not get to your site! Any sugestions, guys?
Harvey…Mozilla wouldn’t let me there at first. In the address box at top of page…type in http://www.the-great-planes.com…that will get you there.
Very nice site Andy! Will view in-depth later on!
Thanks for the nice comments guys. Anyone who wants to add it to their links, be my guests.
