weathering with brushes only

Hi all!

I am building my first tank (and a first model in very, very long time), a Panther. I am not a “pro” modeler and therefore don’t have a airbrush, no yet at least. Could some of you maybe give me some tips on weathering with brushes only? Or maybe provide a link?

BDW, I have been hanging around this forum for a while now, not posting, just reading and learning. Hope fully, my first diorama is coimg soon.

Oh, and how do you post photos here?

Thanks…

my airbrush is back in ohio at my parents’ house, so i didnt use one on my last model (my brdm-3 on another post here). i used canned paint to spray the base color, used alot of black washes, and then used a brush to brush on shaved pastel chalk to weather it. so thats my .02.

Like rufio said, powdered pastels can be applied easily with a brush. I’m a fan of drybrushing, and using various shades and amounts of drybrushing on the model. Using a simple dark wash is also a good way to weather your tank.

As far as pictures go, Start a photobucket account (photobucket.com) and upload your pics from your computer to your account, then simply copy and paste. There’s a great link to a tutorial somewhere in the forums… Lookin’ forward to some pics, hope we helped.

Washes, filters, dot filtering and drybrushing are the best methods to use with a brush. You could also use pastels or MIG pigments with great effect and they are applied with a brush also.

Cheers

Mike
