Any tips/techniques, for weathering aircraft wheels and wells /landing gear? I’m working on a Tamiya 1/48 scale MESSERSCHMITT Bf109 E3. Any help would be greatly appreciated?
When to apply wash, dry brush and what paint selections as well/matt, gloss etc, etc…How to get the tires to look worn and weathered.

For the 109, I paint the gears and wells RLM 02 and then dry brush them slightly with some silver enamel to simulate wear. For the legs, gloss coat then a wash. I use a pre-mixed water based wash called “The Detailer”, but anything will do. For wheels, the hubs should be semi gloss black. I paint this then drybrush the spokes silver to bring out the detail. I paint the tires a dark grey to simulate rubber. I use Floquil Grimey Black for this. Are you using an airbrush? If so, spray the tread area only Tamiya Buff. This gives off a nice worn appearance. This is my method. Hope it helps.
