ok i have finally got to the weathering stage of my first ship build KGV conversion to HMS Howe…
can anyone help me with the weathering especially the deck as i;m so used to doing armour its starting to look like a tank?/

I can’t advise on the weathering (except to leave the mud off) but I’d be very interested in details of how you’ve turned KGV into Howe. My surname is Howe and I’d like to build a similar model. What kit did you use and what references?

i am building the tamiya 1/350 king george v battleship as far as the conversion goes i have a book called king george v class battleships by v.e. tarrant and king george v class battleships by roger chesneau the rest of the info was from the internet…just type in hms howe for pics etc.
white ensign models have pe parts books paint colours etc…really helpful

Seal the deck with Testors flat laquer and then carefully wash with a mix of mineral spirits (thinner) and black artists oil paint. This is a developed skill so…
Test your skill on an old model or a painted piece of scrap to get your bearings with this, and have plenty of Q-tips handy for screw-ups.
I use this same method on armor however use burnt umber in my armor weathering wash.
Black is best for washing ships with… I have found.
