What is the best way to lighten a decal. For instance, I have a black decal that really should be gray, due to sun fading. I’m thinking about mist coats of the medium gray base coat to lighten it. Any other suggestions?
Drybrush it instead…A black gray wash will do most of colors or a lighten same color as the decal for red, yellow etc.

You may also have good results from light gray pastels.
Does anyone know wherer i can get good photoetched parts for my airplanes because my hobby sote sucks and i always out of them?[:(!]
Squadron has a pretty good selection of photoetched and resin detail sets. If you wanted to, I’m pretty sure you could go directly to the manufacturer’s (Verlinden, Eduard, Airwaves, etc.) web site and order direct from there. Squadron would be my first choice though. They have plenty of other goodies to shop from too!
Hey, i just picked up a copy of the FSM warbird modeling special in a bargain backissue bin, and i am now thoughly depressed. the very first article is on the B-17G and it is a fantastic model, with no detail spared. [sigh] anyway, the wing decal on this model has been “washed away”, if you will, in the upper left wing surface. how is this done? cut away part of the decal then smear it in liquid glue? [:)]
