Weathering an abrams mine plow

Dear Forum,

I’m just about at the end of an m1a1 abrams build and I was considering what type of weathering to use on the mine plow…
If anyone had any pics to share i’d appreciate it…

I know there was a nice pic in a finescale gallery section…but not sure which edition it was…

Thanks for your help…

Also…should the antenas be painted the same overall color of the tank or some other color…?

To weather the plow, take a look at comparable construction equipment on your local highways. The plows start off as green and many are repainted desert sand. In use, the paint wears off and the bare steel underneath becomes visible, much like the ripper portions of a civilian bulldozer or road grader.

Normally, when parts are replaced due to breakage in the field, repair parts arrive in factory applied forest green. So the mold boards (those snow plow shaped wings) are often green when the rest of the plow is sand.

Antennas are not painted with the vehicle, even the base (spring portion) is removed or masked. Most are a dark forest green color.

Hi Tank FSM Issue July 2003 has detail on painting and weathering the Tamiya m1a1 kit, I am sure this will help.
