Hi all,
I am very new to posting on this forum,[:)] I am currently completing a Trumpeter Musty. I have just about finished spraying an initial gloss black under coat before I start the bare metal finish using Model Masters Polished Aliminium in places and Alclad in other places to give the model the patchy auminiun effect. But I also wan to bring out the panel lines and the riveting if I can.
Any advice or Websites I can get info, will be a great help.[:D]
I’d use different shades of Alclad2 & forget the ModelMaster polished Aluminum, but thats me. Panel lines & other details can be accented using a thin wash of a contrasting color. On a NMF, a dark grey would work OK, black gets a little to stark. Any paint can be used for the wash, but on NMF I find artists watercolors, the type that comes in a tube, are effective & safe. If you don’t like the effect you can remove the wash with water & not harm the finish. A color like Paynes Grey would work well for the wash.

I’ll give it bash

I really prefer medium-to-dark gray ground artists pastels for gun soot, and the lines of grubbiness extending above and below each gun should not be too long. Photos confirm this. I imagine the rising airfoil of the leading edge carried it the particles away in the slipsteam before it could stain too much of the wing. Also, sometimes it’s really tough to get artists pastels to stick to NM finishes, so I would like advice on that, if anyone can help.
And, needless to say, when it comes to weathering and staining, less is always more.
Just by coincidence, yesterday I got three new sets of dry transfers, including 1/24 scale, for every conceivable Mustang variation (except, I suppose, those that aren’t in English). These are, like all of Hobbydecals transfers, beautiful to behold. I’ve also got them in 1/32 and 1/48, three sheets for each scale, though the third is just for propellor stencils and the oval trademarks (I get the CW and HS trademarks confused), and there are diagrams for stenciling cuffed and uncuffed props.

last night I finished panelling the musty, with a gloss black. Tonight I start brushing the aircraft in a NMF. I am going to use 3 types of silver, model master metaliser polished aluminium on the elevator, rudder, the gear doors. I will use alcad on the wing root and tail section root as well the ammo access panels. Finally the rest of the aircraft will be sprayed with humbrols metalliser.
I will post a picture when it is done :o)
Be Careful, Caution, Danger Ahead! Alclad2 is designed for application with an Airbrush. Brush painting large areas is very risky.
