Weather or not... venting

Well, at least in our little corrupt corner on the right coast, it’s shaping up to be a carbon copy of last winter. With the exception of the past 2-3 days ( cold ) it’s been relatively dry and mild. Now we await the arrival, almost to the day of last years herald, of the latest Snowmageddon. I wonder when every snow storm became harbinger of doom and gloom : power outages, gridlock, store shelves empty, fill up your tubs with water.

God forbid it happen on a school day ( WE WALKED 6 MILES BAREFFOT THROUGH DRIFTS SO HIGH… ) and try to find a kid to shovel afterward. We used to come home with 30,even 50 bucks after a good day. Not a bad haul for a 10 or 12 year old. I can still see the " Golden Hind " I bought once. Anywho, storms came without any Doppler radar warnings and life went on, not so today. In full disclosure I did go out and stock up ; #11 blades, flex sticks, primer and flat black. One way or another I be here modelling.

I hear you, the storms of 15cm seems like the

norm here in southern Ontario and are treated like a big

deal. Back in the day you could not even open the

door to get out, 5 footers. That said up here in

Canada we are so used to the winter and cold. We also

have great things to deal with it, snow blowers

ice tires, snowpack felt boots, parka jackets etc.

I love the 4 seasons of Canada but I know some just

despise winter with a passion, kinda of like xmas lol.

At least some people can stay home and model when it snows, not like us public servants who must report to work in all weather.

Just venting…[:'(]

Yea, I was lucky enough to retire early ( 20 years ago ) and live the life of the rich and famous. I see you got a year or two before you join the club of us cheese and whiners.

Pffffttttt… we don’t get winters in CNY like we used to 30 years ago. Back in my day, we’d get snowdrifts at least 5 - 6 feet high. Nowadays? Nope. Blame it on Global warming… LOL!

Yes sir, congrats on you getting out,for me some where between 12/16 + 12/17

I’ll have to see

Let me add this too - when we were kids, we played outside until our toes and fingers got numb. Yep - built snow forts, snowball wars, snowmen, making tunnels thru high snowdrifts or snowbanks the plow pushed off the roads on our street, sledding, cross country skiing, shovelling driveways and sidewalks (by hand - not a snowblower!!!)

After a day outside in the snow, my sis and I would come in to warm up, have hot chocolate, get on the bench and build model kits the rest of the day.

Man, I do miss those days of youth…

I agree with you BlackSheep, when I was younger and lived is SE Michigan, we used to get lots of snow! I remember it would pile so high against the side of my parents garage that I would dig tunnels through it.

Then I remember entering high school and the superintendent of schools saying there would be no more snow days, and he didn’t lie! Never had a snow day while I was in High School!

Now my kids get off of school when there is a threat of bad weather! lol!

Inshallah.

That’s what I’m talkin, about.

Our home office is in Minnesota and the plant I work at is in Memphis… I wonder what they think we split over a half inch of snow?!

-course, we don’t have snow tires, very few salt trucks/gritters and normally get ice, not snow.

At rush hour you gotta take a number to run into a ditch.

Once in w hile our school district will call for a snow day on account of bitter cold. I’m like WTF!?!? Seriously? I went to school with below zero temps in my day! Kids nowadays are simply too soft. I told that to my son on more than one occassions too. LOL!

The older I get the more I want to move somewhere without winter.

No humidity, don’t want problems with the paint.
