Weapons layout

Modelers, look at these pics and I think you’ll see my intentions here.

I’m trying to conserve space and not make the board this thing is going to be on so large. However, I get the distince feeling that this is too crowded. Comments?

Looks good to me, do you plan to fix them to some kind of base as a display of some sort?

Is there some way to lay them out in more of a pyramid? That seems like it might be a more visually interesting layout than the rectangle. Just my opinion however.

Well, when I layed them out as a triangle, it seemed to take alot more room! However, I may revisit that anyway.

I do plan to fix them to a board with the top surface covered in a mirror laminate.

I think it would look better in more of a pyramid vice the current setup. Or perhaps in two rows angling back from the nose to/past the wingtips. Just my thoughts on it. Either way, it will make for an impressive display! Good job.

I’ve seen layouts like that at airshows and they are quite impressive …
If you have the time and inclination, I would suggest placing the weapons in their caskets or on trolleys; make more of that ‘finished’ look?

Regards,
Bruce

I’d like to do that, but I have no way of making these trollys. I had kind of decided to just screw them into the board. the screw would be covered with some form of black spacer. When you looked at it, the weapon would appear to be elevated from the board by two small black cylinders. That’s the easiest and simplest way I can come up with.

Dana:
You mentioned a mirror base … could be tricky getting screws to work with that, but offcut sprues of the right length and diameter could be epoxied to the mirror, and the weapons stood off with that …
Good luck,
Bruce

Actually, it’s a mirror plastic laminate. I work for a cabinet shop and have access to tons of this stuff. It’s attached to wood with a special adhesive. Drilling holes in it would be no more difficult than the wood itself. [:D]

I think it’ll look great no matter what you do Dana.

I’d suggest scratch building some stands and trolleys, since such very heavy things as GBUs aren’t usually left sitting on the ground, they are kinda hard to pick up again, not to mention the damage caused to them, especially to the fins. Missiles aren’t usually left sitting on fins either, for the same reason, the weight of the missile will damage the fins and attachment points. Remember that these things are also very expensive.

If it is an airshow type display, live HE ordnance is not put on display.
