"We Must stay strong Kommeraden" Diorama completed pics

Well here is my first Dio. It’s got the Panther G Late smart kit from Dragon, and the Tamiya SDKFZ.251/1 Ausf D along with figures from Verlinden and Dragon Gen 2 sets. I am not sure of the title, but that’s what I’ve got so far. Any ideas, tips and what not from a non dio builder appreciated!

Well, like you, I’m no “dio” guy. But, I know when I like it…and I like it!

Steve

Well done. I think your general ideas are going in the right direction. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think the only detracting factor is that it is a little cluttered. You have two vehicles that literally take up more than 50% of all available space. I would have taken one out, or enlarged the base. Also, you ran the walls of the fence parallel to the edges of the dio. I’d angle them a bit, maybe towards the front of the vehicles, so in that way every element is facing one general flow of direction. Also, if you are trying to create a visual interest with so many elements, keep in mind that you are working in the three-dimensional plane of existence, ie the two vehicles don’t have to be on the same elevation…

You could place one of them angled on an embankment, or climbing up it, or perhaps making its way down an incline towards the road.

Anyways, a good start for sure.

Hey Zoran, thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of it climbing up an embankement! The fence was kind of limiting in the design of it. I was limited in that it wouldn’t look like much of a border without it being placed like that. If I put it somewhere else, well, it would have just looked like an unfinished wall! Thanks again for the ideas, will take them into consideration. Thankfully I haven’t glued or pinned the vehicles down, and the figs are just pinned in there, not really fixed!

Thanks for looking guys, Steve thanks for the comments!

That’s pretty good for a 1st dio attempt, a whole lot better than the first one I attempted that’s for sure. [:D] The only suggestion I can offer is perhaps to replace the figures in winter quilted jackets with other regular uniformed troops. They seem out of place with the sunny/green/warm look/feel of the vehicles and surrounding conditions especially since other figures in the scene are dressed differently.

HAHAHA Thanks Bill! You confirmed my concerns for the pics LOL. I guess I should have waited for a gloomy day to take them outside to snap a few pics LOL. Looks like the sunny 80 degree weather may be reflected in the dio now LOL… I have been at odds with the figures, but we’ll see! Thanks for looking

Yeah, though the figs are well painted, there’s just no snow in sight. Since they are reversable, you could paint them in a splinter camo. I also agree with Zoran, the base is a bit tight for so much.

Hey, otherwise, I really like it and the models and groundwork are well done.

Great work, James. Well done.

Really well done. The figs and armor look great.

These figs are wearing the quilted winter suits used by the Fallschirmjager. I don’t believe they were reversible.

these are standard quilted uniforms that are issued to many divisions and units. These figures are actually Luftwaffe figures! It does go to show you that Dragons figures are universal.

heya James[:D]-- nice work on the diorama[tup][tup]–I have read the critiques to your post and I guess there are a few nitpicky things for some( no offence to anyone), but to me, I look at dios as a photo or slice of time in a certain second of history-- something that conveys an emotion-- art is not always technicaly 100% perfect-your first dio IMHO is really a nice slice of history-- very well done! and I really enjoyed the photography (lighting and angles and close-ups)[tup][tup]-- tread[8D]

I really like the diorama as well. The camo net on the halftrack looks really good, as do the figures. One suggestion is mayby to add a bit of snow to the scene, mayby some left over that hasnt melted yet. I think this will give the diorama a less summer feel. But it is your diorama, and mayby it wasnt intended to have snow. Good job nontheless

hey guys!! Thanks alot for the comments and suggestions! I think maybe a little snow will help set the mood a little bit! Tread, thanks for the comments aswell. And thank you for taking the time to look at my stuff, I appreciate it, aswell as everyone else! I will admit that this has been a learning experience by far. I don’t do dios, but I had the base and the figures, so why not! Thanks again for looking guys, glad you liked/disliked it!
