Um, well it’s a little odd steping into this territory but I had a question. Actually it’s my friend’s question and I told him to register here to be a part of the forums but he hasn’t done it yet. Anyway his question is what’s the best materia to use for water in displaying a ship with water? I hope this topic wasn’t allready asked and answered (Probably was) but I was just wondering what you guys here in the ship area had to offer. Thanks all
I was wondering the same thing. I saw a web site once, I believe it was the Arizona with before and after ships. I believe it was on Modelwarships.com. The water looked so clear. I hope someone can tell us what it was.
FSM has had numerous articles on this subject in the past. I have never done it myself so I can’t really help you. Does anyone recall the back issues that featured water?
The 2004 March issue had something about water in it. I’m sure there are others but that’s the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Or like PaddyWagon said earlier - www.Modelwarships.com has an article by Jeff Herne in the How-To section about modeling realistic water.
I wrote this for Modeling Madness a few years ago- still use this method:

Hey thanks all. I got to get my friend in these forums. I’ll pass it along to him and nice ships lenroberto! [8D][yeah]
Thanks for the info and the pics … [:D]
March 2004 Finescale Modeler had an article about modeling water. I used the foil technique and was quite happy with it. The important thing to consider is after you crumple up and reopen the foil, there with be small holes in some of the creases. I don’t know how it would work with 5-minute epoxy like the author used, but I used clear casting resin, and added some blues and greens to give my ocean some color. Then I mixed in the catalyst and poured it into the mold.
Some of the resin ran out of the holes in the creases, but not a lot of it. Important: keep the mold level!!!
I plan on using Water Effects and Acrylic paste to model wakes and splashes.
Good Luck!!
