This is the first time I have tried a wash. I have already applied a coat of Future and allowed it to dry for several days. Now I have just started to apply the wash using enamels, and everywhere I use it the area turns gray once the wash begins to dry. Is this because I am using too much thinner, or is it because the Future may not be completly cured? Is there any way to fix these areas? When I applied the decals over Future some silvering occured, but it was fixed with another coat of Future; will the same solution work with the wash? Sorry for all the questions, I just don’t want this model to be scrapped. Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it.
Just make sure you don’t use water base paint as a wash over the future , use oil based paints instead , you said you were using enamel so you should be all set , the key to washes is make sure you use the opposite of what you used for your base paint , if you use water base paint use oil wash and vice versa , that way it does not peel the camo off you tank , which is a disaster , any fogging of the future should dissappear as the wash dries , and there is almost nothing you can,t fix with pastels after . As long as the base paint is not blistering I would not worry too much .
I don’t use Future, I use Testor’s glosscoat then I decal and seal the decals with another coat of glosscoat. Once it dries (I wait about 24 hours) I put on the wash. I use white mineral spirits not paint thinner for my wash. I also use artist style oil paint for the wash. Normally I let that dry about 48 hours then over coat with Testor’s dullcoat and dry brush. Most problems with your wash can be fixed or covered up with the follow on weathering, either pastels or dry brushing.
