Getting ready to paint my Type IXc U-boat. Paint job will be enamel. Will apply gloss lacquer over paint job and planning to use acrylics for the wash. My reasoning being that the acrylics won’t bite into the lacquer coat like an enamel paint might.
Is my reasoning correct?

Should not, acrylics quite safe. I use it all the time. Just don’t use a wrong thinning agent…
You should be fine with acrylics. I prefer to use artists water colors for my washes. They are the least aggressive of any type of wash and they are really easy to work with. Check out Swanny’s tutorial:
