A wash, huh?
Take some crappy old black acrylic paint, pour about two ounces or so into six ounces of water. Pour that all into an eight-ounce bottle, and add some liquid dish detergent(Dawn works good), only a couple of drops!
You now have a WASH.
Use it, and make your models look better!

What is the purpose of the wash? Is this brushed on or is it airbrushed? Sorry for asking stupid questions.

nsclcctl - A wash is to help bring out the details(rivets,nooks,panel lines and the like). It also helps in the weathering of the a/c as well.
When I do my “Smudge washes” I use water based paints. I do a mixture of the paint w/ distilled water. The ratio of paint and water is all up to you.
Make sure before you do the “wash” you have a few coats of gloss on her first.
Then I’ll take a “fine” brush and I will start to apply the wash on the panel lines or where I feel it is needed. Once that is done, I’ll let the wash sit for about 10 to 15 min or so.
Once the “wash” has dried, I’ll go back over the areas w/ a moistened Q-tip(this helps wipe the excess wash off the panel, leaving the panel lines untouched).
You can repete the process as many times as you’d like or when you get the look that you want.
Well this in a nut shell is how I do my washes.
