which is better for oil wash Mineral Spirits or Turpentine[?] i just purchased a tube of Windsor & Newton Burnt Umber and a quart of Turpentine to use for oil wash. I use Model Masters paint for the paint job then overcoat with Future.
any and all info on this will be greatly appreciated [:D]
They’ll both work. I haven’t used turps since I quit painting a while back, but I use mineral spirits for washes sometimes and they work just fine. Use whichever you happen to have on hand.
i too would choose the mineral spirits gharlene. turpentine is more harsh and will craze plastic sometimes!! i use it to thin mm enamels often though. i feel like the mineral spirits is a better choice and it evaporates quicker as well. later.
My favorite stuff though really is the water soluable artists oils. All you have to do is to mix them with water (though I like to add a drop of liquid soap and some vinegar as well) and clean them up with soap and water. They cost the same and can be bought at the same place as the regular oils. They might be worth a look the next time you are in the store for this kind of thing.
