Wash over Future?

I’m almost ready to try weathering for the first time. My question is one of technique and materials…here is my situtation:

I’m using Tamiya acrylic base colors with a Future gloss coat. (for better decal adhesion)

What weathering solutions will work best (enamels, oils, chalks, laquers…) and will not have an adverse raction to my acrylic colors or Future gloss coat?

BTW - It’s a Tamiya Raiden (Jack) 1/48 (looking sweet so far!) [8D]

I prefer the sludge wash method which you can read about on my site. The Future will give some protection against turpinoid, oil or lacquer washes but only limited.

Dear 007,
Swanny isn’t kidding about future giving limited protection against solvents used to thin your wash (or sludge). I recently used future on my 1/48 A-7…i had to resort to water colors and pastel chalk…originally i intended to wash with acrylics…i set out using model master acrylic thined with distilled water and several drops of 1/4 acrylic thinner…the future not only desolved but turned into a gooey mess. Fortunatly it was fixable, but like i said i had to resort to water colors. From here on out i’ll be using enamel gloss coats…which by the way i’m getting ready to post a question to the forum on.

According to Swanny’s directions on his site, one would make the sludge wash with acrylics, water and some dish soap.

I’ve noticed that thinners of any kind tend to react to Future. But, my question is, does water react with future? (I’ve noticed that some of these military guys use future on their boots to pass inspections, but if the boots get wet, the get caught because the future turns white)

Will a wash of acrylics, water and some dish soap react with future? Are there any tips out there to avoid a future & wash disaster?

It’s not really that big of a problem with the future turning white. It also happens when using decal setting soloutions. Seems like alcohol can turn future white. It’ll return to normal after a while, and also you can just spray another clear coat over it and it will make the whiteness go away.
