…the IJN green?
They were also light grey until 1942 or 1943.
Thanks Kevin
Some were NMF with green mottled camouflage. The trainer versions were bright orange.

Ok, thanks
were any plain white?
Actually that would be true only for the A6M2 and A6M3 Zeros. The A6M5 prototype didn’t fly until the summer of 1943, by which time I believe that the light grey was officially phased out.
Andy
The trainer version with which I am familiar is the A6M2-K, which was based on the earlier, and then obsolete A6M2 model 11 airframes.

Looked at all my references & all I could find on the A6M5’s was IJN Green. Kinda like you can paint it any color you want as long as it’s Navy Green [:)]. The 2’s & 3’s are a different story however.
Regards, Rick
Several G4M Betty bombers were painted white with green crosses for the surrender negotiations at Kadena. I vaguely recall some Zeros also being painted this way, but the memory is pretty foggy on that point.

Somewhere in the dim dark recesses of my memory bank I think that I remember seeing/reading about a black one over Rabaul. I think it may have something to do with Saburo Saiki, (don’t quote me on the spelling of the mans name)
