Listen , I just got back from my local Hobby - Lobby . Discovery - They no longer stock Model Master Military Flats in the regular enamel line . I don’t like Acrylics because of lousy brushability and coverage !
The only sources left to me now are King’s Hobbies in Austin , Hobby - Town in San Antonio or My Buddy , Gary at Hill Country Hobbies ! All are at least a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from me , one way !
That’s a lot of gas used to get two or three bottles of paint ! Tanker - Builder
Gary, I’m in Cameron, about 75 miles NE of Kings in Austin. I often just call and order supplies to be mailed to me. Shipping vs. gas costs…pretty close.
My local Hobby Lobby stocks a full line of MM paints, half of the selection is enamel. It would not bother me to go and get you the colors you want and mail them to you.

I think you’re looking at the wave of the future as far as paints go. I’m lucky enough to have a 50 year established hobby shop, Michaels,and two hobby lobby’s within 12 miles of me. An aside to Hunter, I just started the Hasegawa A6M5c.
I just made a LHS run last week (1/2hr drive)…needed 2-3 bottles of paint. To help offset the cost per bottle of paint (factoring in gas, time, etc)…I bought 4 kits as well.
That is logical and makes perfect sense, right…RIGHT!!!
Oh no, that stinks. My LHS here in Dallas has plenty to offer at the moment. However, he said they may stop carrying them, but for now they’re in abundant supply.
It really blows that Model Master’s Enamel line is slowly shrinking. They’re my favourite paints. I’m not a fan of acrylics so I’m going to have to change but options may be limited. We’ll see how things progress in these parts.
i have anLHA small store 15 minutes from the house and the larger store is across town next to model club saturday morning breakfast and buy things. though affiliated with Hobbytown they aare their own store and offer 15% discount to IPMS members. I will spend a little more even with the discount to buy from them as do a lot of my friends. That’s not to say we don’t take advantage of 40% off free shipping sales and there are some sites (HobbyTerra and some Japanese sites that offer stuff not found in the states). it’s worth the extra dollars on a model to be able to hit the LHS on a Sunday afternoon because i need a bottle of paint.
You hit that nail , squarely on the head . Come on down to New Braunfels some first or third Saturday to the Museum ( train ) and we can meet face to face . Maybe have lunch ?
Well , here’s the breakdown . They have all the regular glosses and flats in the little bottles . No military colors . All the Acrylics are the regular rundown of the civilian color wheel . No military at all . T.B.
The Hobby Lobby closest to me (Kingsport TN) has a limited selection of Model Master enamels. The HobbyTown USA in Johnson City, on the other hand, has 3 racks of the stuff; hundreds of colors.
