Warhammer wanna be

Don’t you mean $45? At their website (my local store is the same price), it’s $75 for the box and $30 for the rulebook. Unless you know of a place to get it cheaper. [:D] [;)]

Nonetheless, your point is still a good one. With core units running between $25-$30 a box, the 70 miniatures are worth the cost difference.

thanks Demon, I’ll have to check that out. I guess the hobby store that has all this stuff would have the mag? I’ll have to look around.

I would think a store that carries the figures and books would also carry the magazine. They might go quick though. You could always let them know you’re interested and maybe they’ll increase the quantity ordered or reserve a copy.

You can always order back issues through their online store.

Or buy a subscription so you don’t miss an issue. It’s like $50 for a year, but it’s also $5 off the rack so you’d be ahead with the subscription. If I recall correctly, in the past they they offered free stuff with the subscription. You might want to call them or look through that Troll Magazine (?) that comes in White Dwarf sometimes.

This is all great information! Thank you everyone for your posts. (this is my first post)

I became interested in Warhammer after co-judging a local model show where Wathammer figures were entered and in a category all by themselves (last month). I began inquiring about Warhammer and the guys that work at our HobbyTown were very eager to talk about it and give me tips, pointers and advice on where to start.

So, I started out with the How to Paint Citadel Miniatures book and read through that. I’ve never assembled a model or painted anything using any kind of techniques such as dry-brushing. I bought some cheap- minatures at the suggestion of an experienced painter/player, but just couldn’t get into it.

My inital thoughts were to experiment with figures I didn’t really care about to get painting techniques down and then choose an army to build (and eventually rule…I mean PLAY with). Instead we went and took the plunge and each picked an army that appealed to us from reading through their book and of course how they look!

I chose the Tomb Kings. I bought the Tomb King on Chariot figure to start with and am in the process of buildin/painting it. MonsterArmor (my BF) coached me through cleaning and assembly and I’m kind of winging it on the paint job, but I think I’m doing good so far!

I can’t wait to have a good base army so I can take the next step and learn how to play!

Consequently, does anyone have any tips for the following? I’m using Citadel’s “Scab Red” as one of my colors and I’ve already painted on 4 coats of it. It’s just thin and runny though and it’s not covering solidly. At this rate I’ll be applying 6 more coats before it looks decent. Any thoughts??

Thank you!

Hey thanks again dave, I’ll have to go this weekend and check it out.
Also, EVERYONE: the above post , to my surpise, is my girfriend Debbie. Guess she didnt notice the “Introduction Category” , but thats ok. I was just happy to see her post ! [:D]

Debbie,
Welcome to the forum, and to the Warhammer World!
I’ve found that Scab Red works best as a base coat over a black primer. It doesn’t do too well for covering large areas on its own. Try brushing a little Blood Red over the top of it to get a nice layered effect, then top with a red ink to blend. Unfortunately, some of their colors don’t cover as well as others.

I personally am not a big fan of their paints, (1) because of the expense and (2) what demono said, some of their colors just act funky. Not sure if its the pigment or what they are suspending the pigment in, I have found their yellows to be…bleh. If you are going to continue using acrylics, you may want to use another brand. I use “Liquitex” which comes in a larger bottle, good quality, and can be found in art stores for a much better price. This is just my opinion, but I have about 30 of the citadel colors and the only ones i use are their metals, I do like those. [:D]

Hey Warhammer fans!!!

First off, you said your wife was interested in Tomb Kings? EXCELLENT choice!!! BE SURE to include the most devistating war machine in recent years, The Casket of Souls! It is a pivotal peice to any TK army. The Screaming Skull Catapult is also an excellent seige device. A major plus to rhis army: Immune to Psychology!!! Biggest Weakness: They must stand & hold in charge attempts against them (no fleeing). When not playing my personal favorite (Slaanesh), Tomb Kings are hard to beat. Hint: Beef up on the Magic Items.

As far as paint goes, I find that Reaper paint is far superior than Citadel (and usually costs around a buck less).

As for a tournament, When & Where???

Welcome, fellow follower of Chaos! I see the 4 great ones are starting to shine down on our blessed forum!
As to your question, we are planning not so much as a tournament as a “demo” of sorts at the Forum Meet next November. I would love for this to turn into a “Battle Royal” for all the marbles! What fun!

Thank you all so much for the tips. I really appreciate the information!

Honestly, I picked the Tomb Kings because I knew I’d have fun painting them, that and the fact they’re undead. I don’t know how to play Warhammer yet, but I’ll get there! Slaaneshprince, thank you so much for tips and hints on the army. I’m sure they’ll come in handy.

Our Hobbytown is starting up a Blood Bowl League and I asked about it 2 weeks ago and wound up buying a team on the spot (there goes MORE money!). I bought the Khemri team again…because they’re my Tomb Kings kickin’ butt on a football field!

I’m so glad I did that because my attention has shifted to assembling and painting them in preparation for a good old fashioned slaughter (by me). In doing that, I’ve learned a lot just through trial and error and re-trial. I feel better about getting serious with my Tomb King army and am a little more confident in my painting abilities. I’ve learned a lot by painting my BB team and it’s going to help me do a better job on my baby boyz!

I’ve only just played my second game ever of Blood Bowl…but I think the Khemri team is going to do well!

Thanks again demono, wolfie and Slaanes!!!

how come no one likes the high elves?
