I build, primarly, tanks and planes, but I was wondering what you think of the warhammer models. I have seen the boxes and some, like the Falcon Grav Tank or the Predator tank, look really cool.
Are any worth the time/money?
they are very nice models, but over-priced like anything that comes from GW.
I got into the game because of the Falcon kit. I really liked it then just got drawn into the whole background behind the game. Now Im several hundred pounds worse off with a shedload of models and an unhealthy obsession for Space Marines.
They are as Hatewall says nice kits with reasonable detail but very pricey. However if you want more of the same and are prepared to pay even more money then check out http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/ just dont blame me if you end up in serious debt.
I just got the Tau Hammerhead grav tank and it certainly looks very nice in the box. My older son builds the Imperial/Space Marine armour kits and has had no real difficuly assembling them.
They are expensive, but for one or two I want to build, that is ok.
I do like the Predator AFV though!
cheers
Mike
Thanks for the info.
I’ll have to be careful as the game seems interesting and I could turn addictive.
Oh no! Those titans look awesome, but… What! [:O][:O] [:O][:O]You have to be kidding…
[sigh]they are way too expensive.
40K vehicle models are great (the newer ones, at least) and some of the figures, particularly the newer
plastic ones such as the Space Marine command set, are pretty good too, but as you say they are ridiculously
expensive new.
My solution is to buy second-hand models on Ebay, you can get some amazing bargains that way particularly if
you buy “job lots”, and particularly if you are prepared to take the time cleaning up + rebuilding poorly-made/painted
models.
New/boxed kits can also usually be found on Ebay for significantly less than the retail price. If you live in the UK,
there are also a number of mail-order/online retailers who sell Games Workshop stuff with a 15% to 20% discount.
I like many of their kits, but avoid them because of the rediculous prices.
Regards, Rick
Another good way is to keep checking in at a GW store .Occasionally they get rid of a lot of clutter, ie the staff build kits for display or tournaments etc and the end up with half used sprues old painted rubbish and sometimes the contents of damaged boxes. 2 years ago I walked out of a GW store with 3 Falcon Gravtanks unbuilt unboxed with no instructions and 2 carrier bags worth of old tanks and half used sprues cost to me? £10 The falcons alone would have cost mearound £50.
Bargains are there to be had unfortunately they are rare and you pretty much have to be a regular in the shop to know when theyre gonna happen.
Way over priced! But some do look pretty neat.
Thanks you all for the info.
I just walked into the fire: I bought an immolator for a bit less than the on-line price tag. Considering I live in México and had to be imported it’s quite a deal.
I just couldn’t pass on the idea of an AFV with skulls and a gothic style.[8D]
Yes, they are overpriced. But in the last post I was talking about the forgeworld resin models. Maybe if I sell my car… …nahh, forget it.[V]
The plastic is way to thick, but it´s cleanly molded, a few pieces have incredible detail and, believe it or not, I liked the plastic tracks. Plus it has plenty of options. [2c]
Again, thanks everybody.
Good choice there steelsnail. In future if I ever need a Rhino for my space marines I will get the immolator purely because of all the little gothic extras you get with it.
Please post pics when youve finished, it would be interesting to see a non gamers version of this kit.
Sure, I’ll post 'em. But I don’t promise a warhammer camo scheme.
Wow, very pricey… but it gave me ideas for my own models I can make by scratching them together. Heheheh. Warhammer’s too cool for my own good, especially at that price!
[#ditto]
I’ve got quite a few myself. Although I haven’t bought or gamed, or even looked at my stuff in, oh, two years, I’m thinking of selling it. No room/time/ambition.
OK…I’d like to join this build if you guys don’t mind. I have a Tau Devilfish and Hammerhead that I’ve had for about a year now and this should give me just the incentive I was looking for to get them started and finished.
The Syko Ward
They are designed to be used in a wargame, so they are pretty sturdily engineered. Lots of slender delicate, well-detailed pieces would soon by lying all over the gaming table. As a result, they are a bit crude, and the game itself is set in sort of a cartoonish universe, so the vehicles are a little silly-looking. That said, some of them are pretty impressive looking, like the Tau vehicles and the Space Marine “Landraider.”
Well, it’s not a group build. At least not yet. I’m neck deep in GBs, but maybe if we set an ample time. Say today to mid august.
What do you guys think?
Who you callin’ ‘Silly Lookin’'?
That’s a land raider, a kit I just got finished saying is impressive looking.
