war wounds

I went to my local model shop as usual to get some supplies where upon I purchased a few items as usual ,amoung this a new scalpel. As I was checking out the person behind the counter gave me the usual warning about scalpels and of course having happily purchased my items and only thinking of producing some nice clean edges on my model went home and once cutting an item slipped and drove the scalpel blade straight into my thumb.

Ouch! I hope it wasn’t too bad and that you didn’t need anything more than a bandaid at the worst.

About three years ago on New Years Day, I stayed up until about 2 AM working on a kit. I was having a really good night but I figured I should pack it up and head for bed so I wouldn’t be useless throughout the rest of the day. As I was cleaning up my workbench, I took a step to my left. I didn’t see that a round toothpick had fallen off my workbench and was being held at a slight upward-pointing angle by the carpet. As my foot passed over the upwardly pointing toothpick, the pointy tip caught my sock and speared itself about an inch and a half into the sole of my right foot and then broke off.

I ended up driving myself to the hospital ER around 2:30 AM. They had to numb my foot to extract the toothpick. I think the needle to the sole of my foot hurt WAY more than the toothpick did!

My worst wound was when I was shaving some plastic and ran the entire length of the X-acto knife into the meat of my thumb. Still have the scar 30+ years later. No stiches, but hurt like a son-of-a-gun. As I always say, though, I’m not actually working unless I leave a little blood on the site.

Sounds like the carpet & toothpick were of Vietnamese origin… [proplr] [:D]

I had that happen once when I was stationed at Miramar, my best friend kicks open my door and yells “HEY!” while I’m cutting plastic on a Minicraft Boeing C-97, I got blood all over my rack, the deck, and the model while he’s standing there laughing his a$$ off

Squaddies, so sympathetic and helpful in times of crises, especially when its their fault.

Eric, OUCH, I hope the nurses didn’t have a good giggle at your expense.

I’m saying nothing, I ain’t going to jinx myself. I like my figures where they are and I have no plans to paint my current build blood red.
