I am looking for the Pro Modeler B-17G Flying Fortress 1/48 kit as my next project.
Does anyone know of a store which still has one in stock (preferable)? Or is anyone out there have one for sale ?
I am in the UK…but willing to pay (reasonable) postage from anywhere.
I have looked on Evil-bay without any joy.
Why is it great model kits get discontinued…and the crap ones are produced for ever ?
Thanks in advance
Ian
hey Ian hope you are doing fine, i havent seen the promodeler b-17 but i will keep an eye on Evil-Bay and let you know.
take care my friend
regards
Hector.
Here is the original (well, the one I remember from the mid- to late 1970’s) Monogram 1/48 B-17G…not the Pro Modeler, but the B-17G in 1/48.
And another…
And here’s one from Revell of Germany…same as Monogram? I know not.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for looking guys…one question, what are the differences between the Pro Modeler B-17G and the Monogram B-17G and Revell B-17G…does anyone know ? And which is the better kt ?
I’ve been watching the B-17s on Ebay for a while now, and they’re always popping up at regular intervals. As you’re in the UK (like me), I don’t know whether the Pro Modeller version was available here, as I don’t see any on my travels. They tend to go for around the £20 mark, but I’m biding my time, as I’ve got a lot of unfinished kits about, and am looking for a bargain, as I’ve got some serious spending to do on aftermarket parts once I get it. I did manage to get a TA-152 Moskito in Pro Modeller for a measly £6 a couple of months ago, so luck can fall your way if you play your cards right.
Have you tried http://www.modelsforsale.com ? They’re good for old & discontinued kits, although because of my self imposed stash limitation, I’ve not looked recently.
I just had a thought… I “think” the Pro Modeller had the “magazine” style instruction booklet, with inspiration for a diorama. If that’s the case, the top link that’s been posted could well be the Pro Modeller.
The Promodeller kit has the Cheyene tail guns and action crew members in action positions. The Monogram and the RG kits are the same diffent decals and RG is more expensive
They are one and the same.
Neither one is better, the “Promodeler” handle is just Monogram’s new razzle-dazzle handle for older kit re-releases.
I have a local hobby store (that does not have an on-line outlet) nearby me that has one of these, but for me to ship it to you would not be cheap.
I would have to charge you my mark-up my purchase price (and these guys will gouge me with their local sales tax) paid plus my shipping and handling costs.
And I would have to see the money up front, in U.S. dollars.

Ian,
Try this site. http://crmhobbies.com/ Chris runs a well stocked plastic model store that specializes in rare and hard to find kits. It could be expensive, but he might have it.

There are slight differences with the ProModeler kit (I have one, but it’s not for sale. sorry.). The ProModeler version comes with the Cheyenne tail turret, five in-flight crew figures, and photoetch parts for the engine harnesses, buckles, ammo belts, gunsight, and instrument panel. The rest of the kit is the same as the Monogram B-17G. The pics onj thye instruction sheet are B&W copies from the “Detail and Scale” book.
Hope this helps !
Thanks guys, lots of info there to digest.
Decisions…decisions…do I go out and buy the Revell B-17G now along with a couple of Eduard etch sets…or wait on the off chance a Pro Modeler kit appears on UK E-bay.
It looks like Mikeiw and myself could be outbidding each other ifon E-bay !
Kits are far cheaper in the US…but then we get stung on the high shipping rates to the UK.
Anyway…back to the 1/48 Stuka buld…practicing my limited skills on the small kits before I move onto the big ones !
I’m still learning everyday…[:D] I didn’t know that there was a 1/48 Pro-Modeler B-17. When was this released?
I’d just get the ordinary Monogram one & then get the Flightpath etched update to it. Bound to be more detailed than the Pro Modeller etched fret. Who uses crew figures anyway? [;)]
crew figures for the B-17??? Who’s brite idea wuz dat!!! LoL…
Well. that’s one of the reasons I wanted the Pro Modeler B-17, it includes the figures. I am thinking of buying an etch set anyway, as the one in the kit looks a bit sparse.
Somehow, I think adding figures adds ‘life’ to a model.
Does anyone know if the old Monogram or the new Revell B-17 kits come with figues or not ?
The last B-17 I built came with figures, 5 of them. It was a Monogram version that I bought in '96.
the revell kit does indeed come with figures… HOWEVER they aren’t in the seated position and they seem to be for a diorama. That was my first forray into the wonderful world of aircraft. needless to say, it sucked. hope yours turns out better!
Ok, I’ve got a couple questions…
On the ProModeler version, did they create a completely new fuselage for the kit? Does it still have raised panel lines? Are the waist windows staggered or directly across from one another? I was thinking about getting one of these kits to build up a late-war B-17, but wasn’t sure the quality of the “new” parts. As for crew figs, neat, but big deal.
If they’re anything like the crew figures that came with my Revell B-24, you’d be better off molding them from cookie dough! Blobby looking creatures doesn’t begin to cover it! I’d get yourself some aftermarket crew if you’re keen to populate your ship…
Now…that’s one of the problems…finding 1/48 US WWll Air crew for bombers. It appears everyone makes 1/35 miletary figures,CMK, Verlinden, Tamya etc…but 1/48 air crew (especially US crew) are hard to find.
There must be a lot of aircraft modelers out there who would like to populate their creation…Anyone know who makes a US bomber crew set in 1/48 which are just not ‘blobs of plastic’ ?
try www.greatmodels.com go to category and then 1-48 scale figures. they have plenty. the ones that come with the kit are pretty good to
