Hey guys,
If any of you need reason to build a kit that came out over 20 years ago. Here’s your reason.
This is probably the best kit I’ve every done, and I have to say, I’m very proud of it. It’s the old Monogram 1/48 B-26 from 1978. It’s the original green plastic and KIT DECALS. I used Polly Scale and Tamiya paint, Future for the gloss coat and Model Master Acryil for the flat. I did the weathering with pastel chalk and Q-tips in about 10 minutes. There is no aftermarket parts, it’s all original. So don’t think it needs to say Hasegawa or Tamiya on the box to be a great build.
I hope this inspires some of you out there.

How did you do the “worn” panel lines with the silver showing through - was that the q-tips and pastels too??

That is one beautiful bird! The age of a kit should never deter someone from building it. When I get to them I have a Monogram F-82 and Hawks Gloster F.1 Javelin to build. My hat is off to you, you display real talent.[8D]

Great job on a great kit! I have several old Monogram kits stashed away for the same reason. I’ll get around to building them someday. When do we see the next project?

Excellent job! Did you remove the panel lines? How did you get the silver to

This is how I did it.
I first primed the plane with White spray paint, the cheap stuff from Menards. I drew over the panel lines with a fine black permanent marker. Then airbrushed the kit with Polly Scale olive drab and neutral gray.
Then using a 10/0 brush, I painted small dots and lines over the panel lines using Tamiya X-11 “Chrome Sliver”. Then I gave it a coat of Future, put the decals on with Micro-sol, did some Sliver dots over the decals, then gave it a flat coat. I then used Black, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Light Gray, and Dark Gray chalk pastels and about 30 Q-tips. I rubbed a Q-tip on the pastel and rubbed it in the wind direction of the model. I used an old paint brush to put pastels on to simulate gun powder, fuel, and exhaust stains. But the Q-tips were used for the flak stains. Finally I put on another flat coat to seal the pastels.

Wow! Very nice. Those Monogram kit decals hold up well don’t they? The Monogram B-26 is due for re-release soon, and Aeromaster makes decals for Flack Bait. It makes a good idea for a new project. Those panel lines are nicely done too. Thanks for posting the pics.[:)]
