For those among us who liked “Kit Classics No. 39: Strombecker’s Space Models” & “Building Glencoe’s Space Station” by Mat Irvine, FCM May '98, go to this URL: http://www.mermaniac.com/archives/002213.html
for the good, well, luke-warm news.
Hot dog! Best news I’ve heard in a long time. Maybe Glencoe and Revellogram wil re-re-release the Willy Ley-inspired kits to coincide with the DVD release. I’d buy them all again!!! -Ed
Late note-Sam’s Club plans on having this available Fall/Winter this year!!!
I also am looking forward to the release of Man in Space. I am a native So. Californian “senior”, so well remember the “TWA Rocket to the Moon” ride at Dizzyland. Wasn’t there a kit of the TWA rocket out at one time ?
I had always hoped that someone would bring out a relatively enexpensive plastic kit of the Disney “Nautilus” from “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea” .
Jim
There are a couple of resin kits of the Disney Nautilus out there, but they are anything but cheap! I believe that the cheapest will set you back at least 75 bucks! -Ed
In-re: “TWA Rocket to the Moon” Glencoe reissued it (GLE-05914) as “Mars Liner”, usually about $10.
Latest & Greatest Info:
And now you’re as up to date as I am. [:D]
The latest info on the release date according to the House of Mouse: 18 May 2004. Amazon.com says that they will be shipping Walt Disney Treasures (aka “tins”) ordered now on 28 May. [%-)]
Great. I have my stash cash ready for that one!
Actually one gets a much better deal if one orders “Man In Space” with “On the Front” (which is Disney’s “What did you do in the War, Daddy?” omnibus) or one of the other Walt Disney Treasures. By ordering 2 tins at the same time, one pays $46.18 (and no s/h!) for what otherwise runs $65.98 plus local taxes ($3.30 to me). Net result: a touch better than 1/3 off.[wow]
TA-DAAA!!! WalMart has it for $24.99 and Sam’s Club for $20.99. Got both! There’s also a new Donald Duck and a new Mickey Mouse collection in special tins as well. Great deals.
Watched them last week. GOD I wish the space program had gone that way, rather than the politcally-screwed version we got followed by decades of decay.
Picked up the DVD’s last week at Costco ($29.99 Canadian). Fantastic!
Although I did have to endure endless ribbing from my ex-wife, who reminded me long and loud about my old “No Disney under MY roof” tirades…
