Mr. Bigelow’s model is incredible! I would like to contact him about his research and sources. Also, are there more pictures available? One of my “someday-I’ll-do” projects is an Intrepid in 1/700 scale. Does anyone know how I can reach Mr. Bigelow? Thanks.

For Jeff & the FSM staff: This is something which I mentioned the last time you guys asked for my opinions in a survey. I’ll throw it out here and see how much interest it generates.
Provide an expanded online Showcase Photo Gallery that provides more pictures than those which actually make it into the magazine. I sincerely doubt that you only took 4 photos of Wally’s ship. Post the out-takes in an online gallery. If not all ot them – how about the dozen pictures that the editors made their cut from. Sometimes I would just like to see the opposite side of a project. The way that a modeler addressed some issue might help answer the same problem I have.
If you don’t want to post the pictures while the issue is current on the newstand - I can wait a month. You might give subscribers easy access, but the month-to-month purchasers would need the access code off the next months magazine to unlock the page. This could help encourage repeat sales – just to see the out-takes.

Actually Ed, in this case… we only had a total of six images. Wally’s Intrepid was shot at the Seattle Spring show last year by mark Thompson. He actually shot it like any other model. It wasn’t until afterward that we decided to feature it in a showcase.
Your idea is already being implemented. The first story to have “overset” as we call it was Mark Thompson’s digital photography story. We added the leftover content to the website in the articles section.
There’s a few stories coming up that will fall into this category. We have an incredible Tiger Meet Mirage going online after the July issue hits, and an incredible, almost-scratchbuilt Canadiar Saber VI going up after the September issue hits.

Either the Trumpeter Yorktown (1944) or the Dragon Essex. Either one will get you close. I strongly recommend the Anatomy of the Ship: Intrepid by John Roberts and Essex Class Carriers by Alan Raven. If you can’t find either of those, the Warship Perspectives Essex book by Glenn Arnold is a great resource too.

Cool. I have both of those books. I was wondering if the old Hasegawa or Tamiya Essex class kits were worth the effort. I just happen to have a couple in my closet.
