After completing my SAS gunner, I started working on the next bust and challenge!
It is a 1:10 bust of a SS machine gunner in reversible camo smock.
The camouflage is the so called Oak Leaf Pattern (Eichenlaub) and, since he wears both a sweater and a scarf, I went for the Autumn variant.
Since it is reversible, a very small portion of the spring/summer part can be seen on the front.
The face:
Ááánd another one bites the dust! After all the challenges I faced on this magnificent bust I can call it done and dusted! While nearly done I discovered a couple of hidden or plainly ignored details, like the small part of the sweater visible through the front of the smock. Oh, and not to forget the string and eyelets.
I also added some mud to the bipod, and made the holster for the side arm a bit scuffed as crawling on the ground is not too good for it.
Now for the Pics:
Excellent camo work. The scarf really lends a sense of a gift from home look and the MG42 looks great. The face looks to me like it has that ‘wind burned’ look. All around excellent job.
Many thanks Manuel! A lot of people use only gun metal for weapons , which is sooo incorrect. I use a mixture of gun metal and flat black which more accurately represents the blackened metal used on these guns.
As for the face, since the figure is supposed to represent one of Adolfs’ indoctrinated youngsters in the winter of 1944 (battle of the Ardennes comes to mind) I thought a wind beaten look would not go amiss. I am glad you picked this up!
Thank you kindly Solomon. Once you figure out the colours, it is not so hard to do. The one thing you want to prevent, is to make the pattern too even…
