Waffen SS Ardennes

Here is a Young Miniatures 1/10 scale resin bust painted in acrylics:

All comments welcome![:D]

Drill those vent-holes in the stalhelm out a bit more (possibly add the stenciling to the grenades as well) and you got a winner…

I could pick your work out anywhere…classic…looks good…ditto on the vent holes; also, looks like you rushed the wood-grain on the sticks of the grenades–in this larger scale gotta do better…also, the roll on his back (and to some degree his smock) seem to have patches of medium grey in them they I cannot verify in pattern refs…to be honest, it doesn’t detract too much from his smock, but is a little heavy on the roll…very nice beard shadowing and eyes–I love your technique of coloring and blending—very understated and using what seems to be a minimum of colors…WOW…

Thank you both for the comments.

Manny, I did rush this abit…and you were spot on with everything! I do appreciate the honest critiques…that is how I will get better with the finer details. I made a big booboo by not checking ref. photos like I should have…I used the box and guessed at what I thought were grey colours:

Thanks again you two!

Yeah, I see what you mean…just goes to prove that even the box-artists don’t always get it right. That pattern looks like a mix of “pea-dot” and “oak-leaf”…Pea-dot should look more like the guy on the left:

The guy on the right is wearing a Fall version of “oak-leaf”…

Here are some pics of the real thing (pea-dot pants on the left and oak-leaf on the right):

Here is my recent figure w/ pea-dot pants and oak-leaf smock and helmet cover:

Thanks Manny for the camo lessons…a BIG difference between the types…and you have them down pat!

That looks very very amazing, im impressed. Great job.

and thanks for the lesson manny. I never really understood how dot cammo worked… but I saw that shot of the real guy and I was like WHERE ARE HIS LEGS?!

also on the a frame pack on his back unless that is a zeltbahn rolled up it wouldent nirmally be camo it would be a mouse grey wool blanket, and the zeltbahn would be rolled up in the middle.

That bugger looks cold!!! I shiver just looking at him!!!

…And the last piece of the puzzle…you are spot on! Thanks…[:D]

And thanks everybody for the kind comments…even if I was a bit off on the details!

Very nice work.

Thank you EasyMike…I do appreciate this…[:)]

Cool bust! How did you paint the beard? Did you mix any colors for the face or is it just one color put on in different layers? Scratchbuit?
