W.I.P. Dragon Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf. E

Here is my next project! This kit has over 1099 parts, as well as 100 pieces of PE, turned aluminium barrel and some brass shells, and some track links! It also contains Cartograph decals, and all this is actually contained in the kit, no need for any aftermarket parts!

This is the one true DML kit I had a pleasure building! Good luck man and keep us posted

Well then, see you in 2012! [:D]

Wholly cow, looks like a great kit! Have fun.[:)]

Supposed to be a great kit. Have fun, I’ve got the Tiger with over 1000 pieces too. It will be awhile before I get to that.

that is supposed to be one awsome kit – good luck with it- i am sure you will do fine-- i know you will keep us posted with updates!-- i wish some one would offer a kit like this in 1/16— treadwell

I just picked up the 1/35 Dragon PzKpfw IV Ausf. D, which is very similar to your E. I must admit, these new Dragon kits are really impressive. Separate tires for the road wheels! Brass shells, rifling in the barrels… amazing, absolutely amazing!

Man wouldn’t that be awesome for Tigers and Panthers?

amen to that!!! Though remember half the parts in these kits will end up in your spares box!! Good kits nonetheless

I know, this kit is so awesome, it has nothin’ moulded in! Those seperate rims for the road wheels are a godsend. Also, there are over a hundred pieces of PE inc. PE chains!

I didn’t realize that Panzer IV’s are so small, compared to my KV-1.

This kit can make three versions, early, late and DAK. Can anyone tell me what DAK stands for? Thanks!

D = Deutsche (German)
A = Afrika (Africa)
K = Korps (Corps)

Deutsche Afrika Korps = German Africa Corps [:)]

Keep us posted on how you do. Ive been eyeballing that kit for a few months now. I think it is going to pull me back from the building break I am taking.
There is a review of it on Perth BTW.

Thanks Espins, I found out, too!

I’ve never made a kit like this before! It is so super-detailled, even with stuff you jus’ ain’t gonna’ see! I’m thankful for it though! I’ll be postin’ pics soon, but my time is bein’ takin’ up with jus’ buildin’ it, there are a lot of tiny parts involved. The instructions could be a little clearer on how things fit on a couple of things. For example, they could’ve given a cross-referenced diagram shot in a few areas, jus’ like Tamiya do sometimes, to make sure you have things fittin’ the right way. That’s my only concern. Still, it’s an awesome kit though, and I am buildin’ the DAK version, by the way!

I am doing the DAK, sort of 30% down the road with it.
It is a great kit with many funny tweaks, I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I am enjoing mine.

3 things though:
Dry fit
Dry-fit
Dryfit

Cheers

If several others are building this kit now, it might be fun to have just an informal thread going similar to a Group Build to share build tips, gotchas and progress, but without the time pressures of a GB, know what I mean? These Dragon PzKpfw IV kits just blow me away with the amount of detail, parts etc. I have the D variant and I just love it. It kinda intimidates me a little as there is just soooo much in the kit. Dragon has definately upped the ante with all their latest releases.

Yeah, i’m up for that! So far this kit is goin’ together supremely well, I had my doubts about all these seperate panels fittin’ sweetly, but it’s totally the opposite.

Can anyone tell me what the interior colour was? I’m plannin’ on havin a couple of hatches open, ‘cos it would be a shame to let all that detail on the inside not get seen! Also, what colour do you guys use to pre-shade XF-60 Dark Yellow, as this is gonna’ be the desert colour, i’ll use for the basecoat. I know they sprayed over the Panzer Grey colour, for the desert theatre. Panzer Grey is one colour i’m thinkin’ of usin’ as a pre-shade, too! Jus’ fishin’ for ideas at the moment!

Glad you’re enjoying this one. In addition to the Perth review, you’ll find a build article on Armorama.

Post some pics as you go. I"ve got mine in the stash, but it will be years before I build it. Looks like a real beauty.

The interior was Elfenbein (Ivory) which is an off-white colour. The interior of the hatches should be the same as the exterior, but I have seen quite a few beeing off-white. I guess you get away with all three options but I will go for Panzer Grey or Dessert Yellow.

I’d love to see them roll out an “H” version.
