Vought OS2U Kingfisher

Greetings!
I’ve been having a bit of troublefinding a kit and wonder if anyone can help? I need a Kingfisher preferably 1/72, 1/48 will do. Have searched Squadron, Great Models, Hometown Hobbies, Hannants, Plastic Models.com, Modelexpo, White Ensign, Store666 and International hobby with no luck. The one I’ve seen is by Pavla. It’s in Squadrons catalog but is sold out. I haven’t dealt with e-bay and would really rather not because of my step-son getting burned on a purchase. Any help would be apprediated.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I get most of my ‘hard-to-find’ models through ebay, never had an incident, of course you must research the sellers reputation via his feedback. modelcitizen49 , lilmoxie , sdolbec, and dcasdan are trusted sellers on e-bay, and normally have an impressive group of models for sale… probably even the Kingfisher. (do a member search using their screen names and check their “items for sale”)

Other than that, call Hobby Shops… some may have a few in stock.

Good luck man,
Frank

i just bought one off ebay for $6.00. there is a few on there now. just search for kingfisher

In 1/48 there is the elderly Monogram kit & in 1/72 there are the Pavla & older Airfix kits. All are currently OOP, but the Monogram & Airfix kits should be findable. The Pavla kit is fairly recent, but was a short run. You might find it at Hannants in the UK.

Yep, and the Monogram relic has the advantage of a good profile and a lot of AM parts for it. Which you will need, since it has no cockpit.

Cutting Edge from Meteor Productions makes a highly detailed resin cockpit for the 1/48 Monogram kit, which is a “must have” if you want to do the kit justice. They also make a replacement cowl. But, be warned, these AM goodies are not for the beginner.

Best chance is eBay. That’s where I got my Monogram 1/48, and here she is just before the last decals (note missing insignia on side), and final dull coat.

Also opted for a replacement all white pontoon look. Applied the PE parts before I finished airbrushing, and they started to fly off. DOH![:D]

The Monogram Kingfisher isn’t bad. I bought the Pro-Modeler version on Ebay a few weeks ago - that boxing comes with a photoetch for the instrument panels and other small details. I paid about $10 plus shipping. The big problem is that the floats are undersized. Cutting Edge makes a resin set with replacement the main and wing floats of the correct size and shape.

Here’s a posting of one on eBay for a great price.

Thanks to Frank, Ghettochild, Rick, sharkskin, Quagmyre and bjohns5.
I’ll give ebay a try and let everyone know what happens.

I’m pretty sure Lindberg produced a small scale Kingfisher also. I think it was 1/72 but I don’t know how accurate it was.

Hey all;
Well, went on e-bay and got a 1/72 Octopuss Kingfisher for $16 plus s&h. The Pavla one that was in Squadron’s catalog before it sold out was $17. Did I do well on e-bay or just average?
Steve

Yes, I had one of them at one time… profile’s are accurate, but poor detailing, typical with some of the small Lindberg kits. A good project to deplete some of the things in ones spares box! [:)]

Take care,
Frank
