I picked this old kit up a few years back from the 'bay…it was a pretty affordable price if I recall-I usually don’t like to spend alot on kits-and when I opened it up, to my surprise, there was a photoetch kit from, Airwaves.
I decided to pull it down a couple weekends ago, and get started on it…
As usual, I started with the 'ppit:
and somehow, I neglected to take some photos of the finished cockpit!
Gun Bays and seamwork commenced:
And this is where I left off last night, awaiting a mask for the glass, and some primer to check that everything is straight and smooth:
Finally got some bench time, and got the fueslage primed, based in black, and the first two colors applied!
While waiting to get back to the bench, I ordered this guy…
and got started with the ‘Zenithal Highlights’
and then started with the second color
it may be another two weeks before I get back to the bench, as I really only hit the bench on the weekends, and I have a Cubscout campoing trip this up coming weekend, so that will cause some delay…
I did squeeze in a little bench time last night, while my wife and son were at confirmation practice, until I was unhappy with my brushes. I did get his face painted. My cheap brushes dont have anything “professional” left in them. I have some new brushed on order, so I will continue once they arrive…
Very nice and extremely wonderful WIP! I really like your color variations as I still struggle with this. As for the 262, it’s one of my favorite aircraft to build!
It just occurred to me-did the ProModeler boxing eliminate the two figures that were originally part of the kit? There was a pilot standing on the ground, as I recall, and holding his parachute in one hand, and a ground crewman polishing the canopy with a rag. Not that that means you’d have to use them, but I’m just curious about the difference between the two releases.
My decals finally arrived, and I was able to get some bench time yesterday evening. Finally. I marked this 262 as the mount of Lt Franz Schall’s Red 1, Staffelkapitan 10./JG7, in 1945:
a little bourbon, some masking and airbrushing, and we are set for decal application:
and this morning, I applied the decals and satin coated the airframe. I will let it sit, probably until next weekend before I start weathering lightly…
to weigh down the nose, I highly recommend tungsten putty! You can typically find it in the pinewood derby section of your local hobbyist! Its really dense stuff!
