VINTAGE HAS SOMETHING GOING FOR HIM AFTERALL!

Just got the lattest issue of Fine Sacle Modeler, and the first thing that I turned to was How to Detail a European Theater B-24 Liberator. I thought that the article was a little short, and they mentioned nothing of detailing the cockpit area of the Lib, but the waistgunning position pics were a god send for me.

On my project The Lady Be Good in 1/48, I have about 98% of the interior of the aircraft built for the waiste gunning positions. I spent about 2 weeks, researching and constructing all of the pieces that had to be added. I had only one reference photo of the Lady Be Goods interior to work with, and a caption to a step in building the Lady Be Good by Shepard Pain to work with. So it was very difficult tobe shure that the detail I was adding was accurate. Not to menttion I could not find any good overall pics of the Libs interior period. So I did what I could to it using what little resources I had. Then I get FSM and see what he did to detail his lib interior, I sighed a huge sight of reliefe and jumped for joy when I saw what I had done was almost identical to what he had done, and I also found out that mine was actually more detailed than his was. I can now stop worrying about the accuracy of what I have done to improve the detail of the bomber and start the painting and weathering process.
Not to mention I have built and painted the cocpit of the aircraft, cut the feusalage appart, built the destroyed engine nacel, detailed the inside of the nacel, feathered the props, bent them, broke the nose bubble glass, built the top turret, simulated the extensive fabric rotting on the controll surfaces, built internal sructure on them where needed, painted the kit engines, I have converted the tail turret to the correct version, and opened the life raft compartments. I still need to make the bulge on the feusalage, and make wrinkles in the aircraft skin (still practicing, on scrap plastic), weather the full interior, put the wings on the feulsalage, and close up the feausalage, and then I can airbrush the exterior, and its onn to the base.

I just might be able to get this bomber done and ready for the September 11th competiton after all. Oh I was also up at Oshkosh last weekend, and I got to help prepare a B-25H for takeoff, how cool is that. Also when I was there I got two new models, the Revell box scale F-94C starfire interceptor, and the Revell 1/48 F-105D thunderchief.

Sorry for the extreamly long post, I have not updated my progress on my build for a very long time so it took a while to tell what I have done.

See Ya

Vintage,

can you post pics?
i would love to see it.

Vintage, you in the Air Force? How were you able to get near a B-52?

I would love to post some pics, I just bought a new 500$ digital camera, but cant get it to download pics to the computer, I also cant figure out how to use photobucket. But by the time its finished I should have it working and able to post some pics.

B-52?, try B-25H, and no im not in the airforce. I got near it becaue im a part owner of the aircraft.

yeah, pics would be great!

Oops, that must be my dyslexic reading skills kicking in again. [:I]

Sounds like quite a project Vintage! I know the frustrations of this here new computer technology. I went through it with my digital camera and also the getting logged onto photobucket. The photobucket forum has people who will assist you on getting registerd, all you have to do is post the question to them. they were very helpful to me, and believe me, I’m a hard one to get information across to. As for the digital camera, thats one that you’ll most likely have to read the book to get checked out, but! it’s not to bad once you’ve got the basics down. wish I could be more help on the camera. If you continue to have problem with photobucket send me an email and I will try to help as best I can. Regards, and look forward to seeing your modelling projects soon. semper fi, mike
