viking refueling

i was given a s-3 viking and a ea-6b prowler for christmas. i was looking to modify the viking and have it with a fuel boom and have no clue on where to find one. any ideas where to find this part? also, both kits are 1-72 scale and was hoping to combine the two through the boom. is this possible? i would think it would be, but was curious if there are any drawbacks/obstacles to overcome. thanks for the help

The Viking refueling boom could be made very easily from a straight length of styrene rod or brass.

As for connecting the two aircraft via the boom, from a realism standpoint, you could only do that if your viking comes with the “Buddy” refueling sytem which is a normal drop tank under one wing and a modified one under the other that houses a hose reel system and have the Prowler taking on fuel from it.

To my knowledge, EA-6Bs never carried the “Buddy” system. The only member of the A-6 family that could do tanker work was the specially modified KA-6D, which you would need an A-6A kit and an aftermarket conversion set to make if you wanted the Viking to be the one taking on fuel.

Fujimi did a very nice KA6D in the 80’s, if memory serves me well this also came with a buddy tank.
Italeri currently has a KA6 on its books, it may be a re issue of the fujimi kit
The airfix S3 had a IFR probe , its fairly simple to copy wirh a large hypodermic needle with some shaped sprue.
