It’s known as bag smashing. One of the many weird games played by sailors aboard ship.
Correct me guys if I am wrong but isn’t it prohibited to be so close to Radar when ship is at sea? I used to work on container carrier and it was strictly “recomended” not to be closer then 3 meters from our radar… And it was way smaller then this one. I dont think they shot it off at sea…

on the 1MC, I’m sure they still do turn that stuff off.

[#ditto] with dkmacin. Still, must have been a CASREP 1 or 2 to conduct a repair while underway. Looks like they’re sitting on the pivot/rotation point for the radar array.

Man things have changed! If that can isn’t full of cleaning fluid, it means they took their lunch! I knew a few CPO’s that would have busted butt over that one. . .all while holding a coffee cup and not spilling a drop!

It looks like CH-53E maintenance is having some problems. One A/C completely without rotor blades (what’s it doing on spot?), and two missing engine cowlings. I’m glad I’m not on that boat.
Maybe they did a MRH or Main Gearbox swap. With no tailrotors either…maybe they had a small mishap and breaking her apart to check all dynamic components?
I guess there’s no telling what kind of trouble they’re having.
