Hey guys! I’m building my P-51A for the CBI GB. I’m using Verlinden’s update set, but I have some questions about the flaps. What exactly do I need to cut/trim? The flaps seem shorter than the kit flaps. What’s up with that? Also, do I need to thin the wing where the gun bay will go? Thanks guys!
Guys here’s what I’m talking about. Did I maybe get a faulty flap set?
I would say it’s a defective set from the look of it, take/send it back.
Are you sure its for that kit?
Marc, I’m positive. Unless there’s another P-51A from Accurate Miniatures. That seems weird that they would be that short. I’ll give Verlinden an email. Last time I contacted them they sent me what I requested immediately.
I bought the Verlinden set and found that the quality did not seem to be as good as that from others such as Ultracast. There is a hole right through the trailing edge of one flap. They are about 2mm too short. I also have a set of flaps from Ultracast for the Tamiya P51B/D. They look identical to the Verlinden flaps but slightly longer. The rivet pattern also looks the same (both sets of flaps have a different rivet pattern to the kit). As I plan to convert kit to a RAF Mustang Mk I with the Ultracast conversion set and so not interested in opening the gun bays I will probably end up using the True Details cockpit set and Ultracast flaps as they both look better quality. I also have the Part PE set which I highly recommend.

Antoni, my flaps dont have a hole. I think maybe Verlinden just had some bad QC for this stuff. I really like my cockpit set thus far, other than in being very greasy. A quick was fisxed that.
I doubt that it’s defective, just poorly executed. I pretty much gave up on Verlinden a few years ago, when their quality seemed to take a nose dive.
