re: painting flesh tones … using acylics, I first prime with a desert yellow colour applied by airbrush and then everything else is brushed by hand. Next step I mix a dark reddish brown wash using roughly 50/50 water and Tamiya thinner. After this dries I’ll do a light handed dry brush of the original desert yellow and then a second one with a bit of white added. Eyes are next - key here is never use straight white, add some blue tint to it. If the scale is large enough you can also put a drop of red wash in each eye socket. For lips, the upper one should be darker than the lower one. The rest of the skin detail is basically dry brushed on with a small brush - dry brushing allows you to “feather” the edges at the same time. If though you do get a hard edge between colours, cover the whole area with Tamiya thinner and it should fix by itself. Finally add some red to the cheeks and add highlights to the tip of the nose, area above upper lip, chin, forehead/upper brow, ear lobes, etc.
Would you be interested in doing a pictorial tutorial for us on building a model or displaying a technique like what you just described but with pictures? Like… jgeratic’s flesh figure painting… something like that? So we can host it in our gallery. We could make you an album to display all of your tutorials and tips… then you could put that link in your signature here to show others some helpful hints. Think about it and let me know.
