These are all 1:48 - the diorama is actually for a motorized Gee Bee R-2 that I am working on, but I couldn’t help but put my favorite planes on this thing and have a little photo session!
Really cool! I like the Texan. Great old hangar building as well.
Wow! Great base and hangar.
(and great builds too!)
That’s too cool!
Great hangar! Looks like a real thing!

Man, those look GREAT! And that’s a nice idea to use the same display for photographing different aircraft. I’d never thought of that.
Thanks a bunch guys! Jim, with this being paired up with my Gee Bee, this won’t be able to be used for my other kits or future kits - however I am considering making another base like this, but larger, to act as a photography base for completed kits. Probably much like this one but with a much larger front to have room for some of the larger aircraft I have planned, as well as more of the actual interior of the hangar so I can pose aircraft “inside” the hangar.
That’s a good idea. It would also be cool if you could build it where you could have two or three different fronts to change out depending on the aircraft you are displaying. But I don’t know how feasible or effective that would be. Just a thought.
Todd, that is a terrific set of photos. The aircraft really come to life in front of the hanger. If you build a larger one, need a WIP and some plans? maybe? please?
that is too cool for words.
Great looking builds, and the hanger is really nice. How did you make it.
Jim - That may be doable if I do it the same way I did this one as far as how the hangar wall is actually attached to the base. If you look at the link to my Gee Bee & diorama WIP thread below, you’ll see that the hangar has three brass rods (well, four actually if you count the electrical pipe on the front of the hangar) that slide into mounting holes on the base. It is tight enough that I can easily remove/replace the hangar repeatedly, so theoratically if I just made sure that the mounting solution was identical among, say, three different hangar fronts, I can definitely see the feasibility of having an interchangeable hangar front.
Geezer - If a larger one is made I will definitely do a WIP on that…
Bish - If you take a look at the build thread below you’ll see WIP pics and descriptions… hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. It was actually surprisingly simple to make!
Thanks Todd, that’s really nice and a great idea.
I have always loved dioramas. Now you have given me yet another reasonto enjoy them. The T6 is gorgeous!
Thanks!! I love the T-6 too… one of my favorite completions!
