Vallejo Model Color Paint Question

Greetings.

I have only just started using the Model Color acrylics from Vallejo and have one small problem. On a couple of figures I am painting the colors dried with a slight gloss sheen rather than the flat finish they should be.

My question is whether or not I am shaking/mixing them for a long enough time or am I missing something else. I have shaken them for about a minute.

I look forward to your help.

Steve

Hi, as i don’t paint with your chosen medium can i ask you if you can stir the contents through the top of your bottle? if so then this may help completely mix the contents of the bottle. It is like leaving a can of flat spray stand for a couple of days and being able to apply a gloss finish as the flattening agent settles to the bottom of the can.

Cheers Jim

Thanks for the response. Unlike the usual tins or bottles where you can really stir them up the Vallejo paints come in small plastic bottles with a screw cap and about a 1/8" spout. The only way to mix them is shake them so I am only guessing that a minute or so is not long enough. Will try a little longer. Thank you for your comments though, they are appreciated.

The VMC paints do have a slight satin sheen on their own, so it’s completely normal. To take off the sheen, give them a quick spray of Testor’s Dullcote.

A good trick when using them for painting figures is to add a drop of a 1/3 Future to water mix to the paint when thinning it. Gives it a bit more flow.
