I trim them with small and different files…then I go with sandpaper (wet) of various grades up to 2000. Which one are you building??
This might be helpful:
I have the 1/48 Wings Nakajima b6n Jill and the A5m Claude from Dons model works.

draw round each part with a thick permanent marker, then score round each part with a sharp #11 blade, holding it at 45 degrees towards the part you’re scoring. Then snap the part out of the backing plastic, and hey presto, they’re out.
To remove the rest of the backing plastic that’s left on the part, simply use a combination of flat paper on a smooth backing, and sanding sticks, until all the white plastic is gone up to the line of pen you left at the beginning. It really is very easy, and you can prepare all the parts to a 1/48th scale fighter sized kit in a couple of hours that way.
Thanks for the tip about the marker , I think that will come in handy.
