V-150 by Hobby Boss

I just got me the V-150 armored car by Hobby Boss and it looks great. Transparent inserts for all vision slits and the detail looks good. I have no way of comparing it to the specs but I think measurements are fatihful to the original (more or less?) I had the solid resin Verlinden model of this from many years ago and they are practically identical. It has some interior details of the driver’s area but I guess it could use some more PE’s. I’m excited to build this as our army still use some of them and I intend to name one after one I’ve seen during the attempted coups here in my country.

Have you heard if they are planning to make an XM-706?

The US Army uses the latest incarnation of it, the M1117 Guardian ASV (Armored Security Vehicle). It is longer and has been updated compared to the V-150.

It’s really strange. The model that arrived here in Manila is the V-150 with the twin mgs in the turret. What they have now in their catalogue is an M-706 Commando Armored car (Product improved) with four mgs in the turret and the model I have is no longer in the list plus they have one with a 20mm cannon and the one with the 90mm gun.

Perth Military Modeling Site is showing them coming out w/a whole line of V-100/M706/V-150 veriants.

Hobby Boss at PMMS.

We shall see.

WHOA! What’s this I see? FAV’s? Dragon/DML promised us those back in the early 90’s and never came through. All that was ever available was a $100+ resin kit. Could the wait finally be coming to an end?

The one they show as the M-706 is a V-100 used by the Army in Vietnam by the M.P.s for convoy work among other things. The Xm-706 was used by the U.S.A.F. Security Police Squadrons for Base Defense. It carried a 13 man Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and was deployed in each sector of the base to respond to attacks. As you can see from my pictures the weapons were carried outside and the people were only protected by the raised armorsides and the slightly higher armored doors what could be closed and had enough strength to stop the force of hand grenades from penetrating into the vehicle.

I believe this version also had the possibility of beign used as a mortor platform.

The V-150 was capable of mounting up to 82mm mortar. (81mm with 62 rounds internally.)

I guess this is it but by another manufacturer. Hobby Boss came out smoking with models that we all wanted but never saw the light of day from other manufacturers like their High Speed Tractor. It came out a long time ago and I am not sure if they have resin models but the HST is really good! Can’t wait to see what they are coming out with next.

Does anyone know an expected retail price on this one? Looks like a fun build to turn into a SWAT vehicle.

The V-150 sell for about $15.00. Models are rather cheap in Manila. In fact some Australian modellers buy a lot of kits here when they are in town. What we direly lack here are AMs.

I’ve been waiting for someone to do this as a injection molded kit for a looooong time!

You can bet I’ll be getting several of every version.

Are you saying that you also have the Verlinden version that weigh a ton. The axles of mine broke because it could not handle the weight. I had to repair it several times.

No.I’d thought about getting the Verlinden V-100 but decided against it for 2 reasons…

1.Solid resin.I’d like to be able to open a few hatches and do a little internal detail.

2.I heard that other guys had the same problem with the axels that you’ve experienced.

I would be very interested in your opinion/review of this kit.I look forward to hearing about your progress. Please post photos when you can.

I’ve built both… Verlinden’s V-100 and V-150 and I just knew that the axles wouldn’t hold up. I ‘pegged’ them with brass rod and haven’t had any problems. The V-100 has been on its wheels for 19 years (this month) and still looks great, the V-150 being built about a year ago. (I also ‘pegged’ the axles on Verlinden’s BRDM-1 with Sagger ‘brick’.)

Ah yes… but to have an interior…

The kit looks very good. The details are sharp with no flash. It has an interior but I think it is not complete. There are only details of the driver’s area but not on the back. There seem to be a box for the engine but I guess that’s about it. The exterior is very good tough with clear inserts for the vison slots and vinyl tires with I would say a good detail of the suspension. In short, it is a very good kit compared to the Verlinden issue. There might be some detail issues but otherwise I think it’s ok.

It’s great to see these neglected US wheeled AFVs finally being kitted by Hobby Boss. I will grab one of each when they arrive here. And of course the FAV whenever it shows up.

Thanks for the review Constructor. That pretty much sealed the deal for me.[tup] I get the feeling that it won’t be long before resin/PE start showing up.

Stikpusher, those FAV’s are also a long awaited project I’ve wanted.I’ve got plans for some of those.[;)]
