USS Talladega APA-208

I want to convert Revell’s USS Montrose APA-212 to Talladega as a gift for my father-in-law. I have found pics of Talladega online, but I’m wondering if anyone knows of specific differences between the two ships or will changing the hull number be enough. Thanks!

Since both APA208 and APA212 were both Permenente-built Haskell-class transports, laid down within 2 weeks of one another - I would be fairly confident that their as-launched (i.e. WWII) appearances would be similar. Of course from that point on ships begin to change. If the accuracy thing concerns you, you will have to go with other references. Otherwise - a set of hull numbers and a name change should do the trick

The question which you might need ask your wife of her father is when was he on the Talladaga? The Talladaga was decommissioned in 1969

Some late-life photos o fthe Talladaga on the Navsource site http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/03208.htm

seem to show an appearnce which is quite similar to the one photo of the Montrose (also a later life picture)

If you can’t find a Revell Montrose APA, the boxing as the Randall is similar. Loose Cannon also makes a 1:700 scale Haskell-class

Thanks for the reply, sorry I took so long to say so. My Father-in-law was aboard Talladega in the early sixties. Oddly enough , I was raised in Richmond where the ship was built! Small world , eh? Thanks again for the tips.

If your interested in the Loose Cannon Haskell kit, contact Hugh Letterly to see if he has one - Dave Angelo has been deployed to one of those “exotic foreign locales” for the next year.
