They would probably have been from VO-7. The markings I have seen varied during the war but were mostly simple tail stripes, and in a few cases the ships name under the rear cockpit. However, most pictures seem to show just the basic paint scheme without any special markings. It usually did include the aircraft number which would have been 1,2 or 3 for that ship. VO-7 had the aircraft for most of the South Dakota class originally, but some changes were made later in the war. Check navsource.org for more info.

Most likely, those for BB-59 were OS2U-2 or OS2U-3. (BB-59 web site says OS2U-2s).
