I am new to this site and was just browsing. I have long been interested in the USS Longbeach. I know Revell used to distribute this model in about a 1/460 to 1/540 scale. I am always looking and hoping to come acroos one. Does anyone out there now where I might be able to find one. I tried ebay with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
don’t forget to check model swap meets. If you are looking for something that has been out of production for a while, or is a bit obscure I feel model swaps are the best place to look. Keep checking e-bay too, the inventory is always revolving.
Tankbuster, I have to tell you, I had this kit and it did not please my taste. I built that back in the days when I was a bad modeler, but if memory serves me right, detail left a lot to be desired, hopefully someone will make a better kit someday. As for the ship herself, I was hopeing the Navy would save this one but she was already destroyed or at least partially destroyed.
I agree. the details left a lot to be desired. The last time I actually saw one was probably back in 84-85 time frame. My plan was, if I could find one, was to get some of the modern destroyers out now and use pieces of them for references to build and detail a more respectable model. I am retired Air Force myself, but have always for some reason or another been fascinated with modern navy warships. The Long Beach is just one that just peeks my fancy.
Tankbuster - give some hard thought to trying out that JAG collective version of CGN-9; it is a far superior model.
When you get a chance, check out the photos on my site of Loren Perry’s 1.96 scale Long Beach, a bit of inspriation there. It is the the Museum Gallery, LA Maritime Museum section.
Thanks for the reply. I just checked out the website. Impressive indeed. Also I do have the JAG Collective LG on order but haven’t received it yet. I am now living in Singapore, of all places.
