First attempt at doing water on this one. This was the original build thread, no luck with silicon whatsoever. This approach to creating a deep ocean type base would probably be how I’d approach water from now on.

I knocked the main periscope off when I was transporting the model to an expo-and dropped a cushion on it-and lost the main gun in the middle of the car park, and found it again- other than that it was well received.
Not being a boat guy, I just took a peek and Man! you caught my interest!

Wave action looks outstanding and the water coming out of the ?drain holes is very well done and fits the action imparted by the waves.
Thanks Steve. It turned out better than I expected although I deliberately ‘dimpled’ the water surface in a way that produced a realistic specular effect once it was varnished.
For anyone who is interested I found what worked was airbrushing the water and wake effect on top of the royal blue base colour, working dark to light. So the final touch is just white airbrushed to create the churning water, followed by clear Tamiya blue over that layer, and several coats of cheap craft store varnish.
I was thinking of picking this one up myself. How was the build of the model itself?

Thanks, very easy build, no major issues. I painted the deck and ‘conning tower’- (I think the Aussie navy calls it the ‘fin’) seperately, but it was a tricky fitting it on afterwards. I’d just make sure the tower fits easily onto the deck, not loose but snug.
