I’ve already got the decals, collecting dust. The question is, where can find I good F/A-18A kits in 1/48???
How about superdetailing sets, weapons and stuff?
Hasegawa used to make the “A” in 1/48, but it may be difficult to find. You can re-vert an F/A-18C back to an “A” without much trouble. There are plenty of AM parts to make an accurate cockpit, etc, and Hasegawa also has weapons/ordnance sets in 1/48. Besides, there’s also raiding your “extras” box for stores as well. [:)]
Hasegawa currently sells an ‘A’ with aggressor markings in 1/48
Cheers mates! [tup][tup]
I couldn’t find a Hasegawa F/A-18A (just been looking around), how do I revert a F/A-18C to a F/A-18A, does take much work etc?
Overall not much. There are some avionics cockpit differences between the A and C, but if you’re not that picky, keep the C cockpit. Outside, there are no LEX fences on the A and no ALQ-67 antennas behind the cockpit and two less around the nose. ALQs are the ECM blisters on the airframe. If you look on the “C” there should be two bumps on the spine. On the Revell/Monogram kit, they are molded on. For the Hasegawa, I’m not sure. Either way, you’ll have to sand these off if molded on.
If you look at a picture of a “C” the LEX fence (Leading Edge Extension) fence on the “C” is between the wing root and the spine. It’s a trapazoidal looking blade that sticks up. The original “A” didn’t have these.
The engine is also different. Use the “tailfeathers” on the exhaust part of the engine for the F404-400 vice the F404-402. Have fun![:D]
Try this site: www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/f-18.htm
If you look at the first batch of photos (second to last row with 4 photos), compare the first photo (F/A-18C over a carrier) of that row, starting from left, and compare to the photo next to it (six VFA-151 F/A-18As in formation).
That was a great website!
Thank you SO very much Dragonfire[:D][:D][:D]
Anything to help.[:D]
