USN Thermal protected bombs, i.e. Mk80 series

I’ve been kicking around various ideas as to replicate the thermal coated bombs. Any suggestions? I was even contemplating ising a scribe to poke the hell out of the surface, but whew! What a pain that would be!

Liguid glue. Before it has a chance to fully cure, wipe it off with aliminum foil. You may have to do it several times to get the proper effect. I discovered that trick by accident.

I built an A-6 with a bunch of those mounted. I covered mine with putty and then lightly sanded all the high spots down, then stippled on a light coat of lacquer thinner with a fairly stiff brush. Looked Great! Until my furry feline friends got to it. Cats…Can’t live with 'em, can’t kill 'em…

Those cats are causing you more problems than a wife. Don’t tell mine I said that

ROTFLMAO! Yeah, I came into the dungeon today, opened up the “cat-proof” door and found my little calico all snuggled up on my keyboard. Still have NO clue how she got in, they are resourceful little creatures. Sneaky too. Ah, happiness is being owned by a cat!

What I did is I painted mine standard Olive Drab, and let them dry about half-way, and then scraped at em with a clean, dry brush. Some of the texture is a little too big for the scale I was working in(1/72 scale OV-10D), but they came out looking better than plain ole’ smooth ones!
And yes, I own a cat too, she likes to sleep on the chair I sit on at my hobby desk, but other than that, she hasn’t ever bothered my models or anything! What a nicely trained Kitty!

I thought about the stippling technique, but not with putty, just multiple layers of paint. It’s worth a shot! Thanks!
P.S. Cats were ment to fly…honest!
berny13, why aluminum foil?

With tacky glue, you can’t use anything that will leave fibers. I found out aliminum foil will leave a rough surface when used as a means of removing tacky glue. As I said, I found out by accident.

Well, fellas, at least I can say that my cats have test flown more airplanes than Chuck Yeager! hehe
