USMC Cockpit Colors Circa 1960?

Hi there guys, I have just picked up the Hobby Boss 1/48 FJ-4B Fury and plan on doing it as a USMC attack bird from 1958. The problem is that the instructions are a tad light on when it comes to nominating the cockpit color so I was wondering if anybody here could help me.

TIA

Good question Darren! I looked over at IPMS Stockholm at their color charts, but they don’t list an interior color for that period. Here is the only other stuff I have that may help:

US Cockpits

FJ Fury

FJ-1 Fury

I know it isn’t exactly what you were looking for, but thought I would share it anyway. GOod luck! [;)]

PS- PM inbound! [:D]

Dark Gull Gray FS 36231.

Regards, Rick

If you are doing a gull gray over white exterior, the SPECIFIED color was dark gull gray, FS36231, with black panels. If the a/c had been around a while, and maybe previously sea blue, the cockpit was SPECIFIED black sidewalls to the top of the side panels, and interior green below. If the exterior was repainted, was the cockpit redone???

The Ginter book on the FJ-4 says dark gull grey like everyone is saying for the basic areas and the seat, with black on the glare shield, all the sub panels and the instrument bezels. The panel itself is the dark gull grey, if I’m interpreting the b & W picture correctly. I did the Matchbox kit that way a few years ago. Looks more interesting than all black on a refinished airplane. Here’s the picture so you can make up your own mind.

Thanks so much Frank, Rick, Wayne & John. I knew I could rely on this forum for an answer on this one [tup].

As the bird I’m doing is gull grey over white I’ll be going with the dark gull grey with black panels option.

Cheers
