Using pastels to create camo

How about using pastels to create camo on German AFV’s. This could look pretty good if done right.

? Not quite sure what you are saying.

You would use the pastels to create the camo pattern on tanks instead of an airbrush.

Smear the pastel on the model in the pattern desired (Dark green or brown)

Then smooth it out with your finger.

Then smooth some more with a Q-tip.

It should look pretty damn close to a airbrushed camo job.

What do you think?

It might work if you could get the proper colour, but it would be hard to get it in the corners and other tight places.

Remember, Camo patterns on German armor was not perfect and uniform.

You can interpret camo patterns however you want, but an airbrush is still the best way to apply them. Give the pastels a try, but it will not look as good or natural as a camo pattern applied with an airbrush. Also, there is no way to seal the pastels without loosing most of them in the dulcote when sprayed. You just need to get over your airbrush phobia and give it a try.

Actually, There are new pastels on the market (MMP) that are thinner than regular pastels.
I found a website that shows a model that had camo done with pastels. It looks pretty good to me. Also, regular pastel fixative works very well for sealing.

This is the website. Check out the Jagdpanther on the bottom. The camo was done with brown and green pastel.

HMMMMMM!! This could work.

Then just do it!! It seems you want an answer that we here can’t give you. I’ll keep using my AB. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you!! Good luck!!!

I think what the pastel guy did was to get a variaton on the base color with pastels, not the entire paint job. Bu by all means, give it a try.

Yeah, he created tonal variety with pastels, he painted the camo with an airbrush like everyone does.[:)]
